1966 Ford Mustang Convertible1966 Ford Mustang

Automatic with Power Steering, Drum Brakes , Dual Exhaust.
Other options: Power Top, Center Console, Spinner Hubs

Data plate indicates the car was manufactured in Detroit off the assembly line December 30th 1965 , originally distributed and sold in Chicago, Factory "C Code" 289 V8 2 barrel carb. California Black Plate car, meaning it has original license plates form the 1960's, after 1969 the plates were blue so the car has been in California at least since 1969. Data plate also indicates 289 V8 2 barrel carb, Automatic trans, Pony Interior and F code 2.80:1 ratio Traction Lock limited slip rear axle. The traction lock makes sense for a car originally sold & used in snowy Chicago.

The car is Night Mist Blue with Blue and White "Pony" interior, an original combination offered on the 1966 Mustang convertible. The blue is a slight shade lighter than the standard issue Night Mist blue, but close enough where I would still consider this a numbers matching car, meaning that correct color / engine / trans as indicated on the dataplate code. All exterior trim intact and correct.

Excellent paint job, . Power top with glass rear window. Front and rear bumpers are bright like new, and have been re chromed or replaced . Body panels line up excellent, with no "wave" when you look at the reflection in the bumpers indicating this is an accident free car with no body filler Spinner style hubcaps with blue hub center (1966 Mustang period correct option). Matching Michelin tires almost new with 90% wear all around .

INTERIOR

Interior door panels , seat covers all very good. All widow regulators / tracks good, windows go up and down smoothly.
The dash area is very presentable clean, and has a new aftermarket vinyl dash pad. The steering wheel brightwork and dash knobs are original and show pitting consistent with the age of the car, they would clean up with a professional detail and polish.

Engine compartment clean, no excessive oil leaks (i.e. valve cover leaks, etc.) . Newer heavy duty radiator, up The engine has a "Monte Carlo" bar n the engine compartment, a period correct aftermarket item that stiffens the frame. Undercarriage, rocker panels, torque box's and rails are straight ,floor panels intact and rust free Exhaust system, mufflers serviceable. No underengine oil leaks or transmission fluid leaks ( drops on ground after drive) except for typical oozing from the pan gasket.

Headlights, hi-lo beams, wipers , heater fan, temp gauges all OK. Ampmeter and oil pressure gauge not working, there is an after market oil pressure gauge under the dash that works, as well as an ampmeter that
needs to be hooked up. ROAD TEST

Car starts from dead cold perfectly, idled smoothly. Engine is well tuned, accelerates briskly , has newer hoses, belts, plug wires indicating engine have been paid attention to.

Nice soft throaty sound coming from dual exhaust. Car tracked well, did not drift right or left, auto trans working upshift/downshift into all three gears. This 35+ year So Cal veteran presents very well, and is great example of a 1966 Mustang !
