Fraud Alert

The classified section gets over 2000 visitors a day,

overwhelmingly from legitimate parties looking for a car.

SELLERS :

Your e-mail address is hidden, all messages are forwarded out from our files.

You might receive "scam offers" before you hear from a real buyer.

You will get "scam offers" if you advertise on any site that attracts

a lot of visitors on the internet . Best thing to do is ignore them !

If you want your ad removed we need to know the date of posting (which you can find in the bottom right hand corner of your ad) and the e-mail
address you used for the ad. Send this info to

The scam offers are easy to spot.

The letters starts out saying I am interested in buying your car, asking about the condition ( without many specific questions) and "what is your last asking price".

The buyer will often be from outside the U.S. and have a hotmail or yahoo mail address. They will send a forged cashiers check, for more money than you are asking for your car, and ask you to send the difference back to them.

Your bank might credit your account and make funds available to you before a check clears . When the check turns out to be forged , your bank will hold you responsible for the funds. A safe way to accept payment is to ask for a personal check, and tell your bank you want to be notified when the check clears.

Another scam involves a buyer offering to send money to a third party escrow company, including "mustangdreams customer service". They will then send a fake e-mail saying "funds are good" and ask you to release your car. The "From" field of an email can easily be altered - it is not a reliable indicator of the true origin of the email. We at mustang dreams are not an escrow service, and do not handle money or get involved in outside transactions unless a buyer has engaged us to locate and inspect a car.

A con artist might ask you for your personal account number so they can wire funds. Do not give your account number to unknown parties. Ask any suspicious buyers for their contact info, including address and phone number where they may be reached. Scammers usually won't give a phone number. Ask your local bank about safe ways to receive payment.

BUYERS :

Exercise caution, do not send funds to unverified parties. The "From" field of an email can easily be altered - it is not a reliable indicator of the true origin of an email. Con artist might refer to another website in their ad, and claim to be the person advertising or selling a car. They might set up "front" business's/ web pages, claim the car they are selling is located out of their own state or country, or ask you to send funds to a third party, or a phony escrow or shipping company.

We at Mustang Dreams and do not get involved with sales unless you have engaged us to locate and inspect a car for you. If in doubt write to us at This is our legitimate e-mail address.
